Joi :: One and One is One
[realworld]   review from dimm

These are the guys. They're the ones that started it all.

Now, one of them's dead.

That sucks.
Farook (alive) and Haroon (dead) Shamsher started Joi Bengal Sound System in 1983 and in the early 90's caught the attention of Peter Gabriel's Real World Records (which to this day continues to sign innovative artists despite growing competition from the Six Degrees label...).

This debut on Gabriel's label exposed the London duo to the world, paving the way for musicians such as Talvin Singh and Asian Dub Foundation in the following years. In a BBC Radio 1 interview Talvin says of Haroon and Farook, "...they have a completely different style. This is what people have to understand - they had a very unique style, and they still have and they will do, and that's what's great, that's what's important. So it's not really about just the music, it's about personal friends"

This cd is a must for any Indo-break-beat fan.
