to the dismay of many and the delight of a few, the BBC has finally decided to axe the entire freaking Asian Network!

The Times article continuously cites striving for quality over quantity, thus cutting ALL the acts from a “list”… i’ve not made it secret that i feel that BBC-AN tends to err on the “desi” side, but aren’t they throwing the cute brown baby out with the bathwater?

So the BBC Asian Network has gone full-frontal D.E.S.I. (Don’t Even Say It) by canning Electro East with Nerm and Pathaan’s Musical Rickshaw… Good job BBC – because i need much more poorly-produced bedroom ghetto rhythm & bhangra in my life.

nerm’s much more polite about it:
“To give Electro East on the BBC Asian Network the send off it deserves, we’ve got some very special stuff planned that started this weekend…”

We wish Pathaan & Nerm the best of luck with their respective projects Globetonica and Shiva Soundsystem

When EarthRise SoundSystem’s Derek Beres and David “Duke Mushroom” Schommer first joined together to remix a song by popular mantra singer Deva Premal, they set out to create a new paradigm as to what ‘yoga music’ meant. The result was a percussively rich, organically spacious and dubby soundscape. This approach laid the foundation for their full length album, The Yoga Sessions (Yoga Organix: January 1, 2010), a collection of 21st century electronically inspired yet organically grown original music that will redefine one’s notions of “yoga music.”
